Reseller Update - collage in Portland

Just a quick update from our of our resellers, collage in Portland. We just added their store addresses to our dealer listing and want to let you know if you like miniatures, they are stocking alot of what we sell in their store. I recently spent quite a bit of time looking at the site for Collage, a retail craft store in Portland Oregon.

Part of the reason I like this shop is that I really like Portland.

I always have liked Portland. And at Collage, the sprirt of Portland shines. Like Portland, Collage is a mix of the standard and the turely unique. They have regular products, the standard paints, glues, pens. But also the unique, and the very unique. And classes, lots of classes. 

I like this, because it is kind of like us. We live for unique and we have lots to learn. Maybe that is how Collage found us, not really sure. But we are very happy to be buddies. If you live in Portland, or are just passing through, it's worth the stop.

Retailer Profile: The Bearly Scrap! Welcome, Welcome, Welcome!

We love adding new retailers to the "family" and really like it when companies like Beary Scrap start to carry our line. You see, getting a new retailer, is like getting married. Our family becomes linked, our holiday gatherings become a little brighter, our circle of contacts is a litter bigger as our designers and artists will get to know each other a little better.

But on top of this, every retailer get a "vote" in the business. What we should be doing, how we can better serve our customers, even, who gets to bring the cake to our holiday dinners! So we are really, really happy to announce that Beary Scrap has joined the family and is doing a bang up job with how they are presenting the glitter on their site!

And, if that was not enough, what a great design team and blog. Wow. Put's mine to shame. Oh well. We do what we can do. But the level of their projects, designs and support of just off the scale. You have to check it out! And, of course, welcome to the family! We are so happy to have you here!

  Shabby Cottage Studio has a ton of great project ideas on their site for Valentine Day. Nestled high in the mountains of beautiful Tennessee (really a beautiful area of the country - I've been there!) Gail is an artist and has a very creative spirit in the products and project she offers. Her blog is a running flow of new products that make her store the one stop Valentine shopping stop!

Stash Society ~ "The Romantic Life" ~ A Gilded Life

Today we are really happy to present the "The Romantic Life" from A Gilded Life. This is a very interesting "high end" monthly kit club, and from the look of the kit and my understanding of the response, this is really a huge hit! We are really proud to be part of the kit and hope you will take the time to check out their site. Beautiful pictures (a few which I snagged below!!) We forward to working with A Gilded Life as they start to think about what's next. I know it is going to be great!

On top of the kits, A Gilded Life does retreats at their studio in Dallas, they teach at a select few upscale events, and are writing their first book this year. (A free sample of Glitter with every copy... Maybe!) Check it out and enjoy!

 

Retailer Profile: Could you walk by Zinnia and not go in?

Some stores were just meant to enter, to explore, to enjoy, to linger, trying to understand all the possibilties. Well Zinnia is all of these but it also like a treasure hunt, where everyone comes away with a prize. This the only way I can describe Zinnia.

It's not just because they have a huge collection of all things wonderful, or that they stock our Meyer goodies, or that they hold classes (with 6 resident teachers), or even that they have a cat that lives in the store (I am a cat person, sorry).

It's because I love the thrill of seeking what I don't already have and Zinnia is a craft seekers dream come true. Boxes and baskets and bins of wonderful items that each need to be looked at, each screaming with a million possible uses (ok, maybe not the buttons - I am not a button guy - sorry). Artist Profile: Laughter and Lemondrops

One of the "fringe" benefits of running Meyer Imports is the fact that customers take the time to share what they have created with me. Sometimes it is a interesting craft project, sometimes a piece of art and sometimes is a real cool website.

Well, Caroline Sherman of Laughter and Lemondrops has shared all three in one email.

Her website is a piece of art in it's own right. Don't expect an "Amazon" get it done fast shopping experience, this is a site where you want to enjoy the graphics, the design and the way you move from product to product. And, while you are there, make sure to enjoy the products!

Like the Tree to the left, her designs are detailed, vintage, a little whimsical. Just my type of designer!

Retailer Spotlight: Tinsel and Company!

As you can tell, the purpose of this blog is to be a resource for anything and everything German Glass Glitter. And, if along the way, you want to purchase some glitter from us, great! But that is really not the only purpose of this blog.

Because we are so focused on importing Glitter (and related products) from Germany, we get a lot of questions about Glitter and related products. We try to answer as many as we can, and this post is to help customers who do not want just Glitter, but are looking for Christmas Decorations that have that vintage look, from Christmas past.

Wendy Addison is a very well known designer and friend who creates some wonderful items that embraces vintage and Glass Glitter in all her designs. Today we want to introduce a very nice family run shop that has a number of Wendy's designs, and so much more!

Tammy at Tinsel and Company (I love the name!!!) is a mom juggling 3 toddlers (twin 2 year old girls and a 3 year old boy) who has launched an on-line boutique selling vintage inspired seasonal home decor and gifts. Like all of us with passion for what we do, she only sells what she truly loves.

If you love Glass Glitter and Vintage and Christmas (or Halloween, or ???) You should stop by and say hello! You'll be glad you did!

 

Jewel Kade: Profile of a Successful Start Up

We really like Jewel  Kade not only because they use lots of German Glass Glitter, but also becuase they have become one of the fastest growing companies in our industry. They have done so many things right (back to my point about their use of Glass Glitter!) that it is a great company to check out for all of us to learn from.

Jewel Kade offers fabulous jewelry items with articulate detail through every stage of craftsmanship.  They have seen tremendous growth since their humble beginning, and have appeared on The Today Show, The Ellen Degeneres Show, and American Idol.  This is no small achievement for such a young company. 

With their roots going back to 2008, Janet Kinkade founded Jewel Kade, offering vintage, contemporary, urban, and romantic jewelry items.  They offer a wide selection of charms, earrings, drops, bracelets, necklaces, and many more.  Each item is crafted with pewter, hand-cut glass, and Swarovski crystals, or German glass glitter.

Jewel Kade distributes their jewelry items through a large network of Jewel Kade Stylists, representing the multi-level marketing (MLM) business opportunity that they are becoming well-known for.

Jewel Kade is interesting to me as they have taken a concept, added their twist to the design, but then really thought through how to build a retail channel for driving sales. Instead of just thinking Etsy, eBay or a website, they have created an "army" of sales people who are introducing the brand to customers and retailers nationwide. Something to think about and learn from.......

Artist Spotlight: Designer Janet Kinkade of Jewel Kade

Artist Spotlight! Becky Caraco - Flameworked Beads

We are very happy to welcome Becky to our family! She creates beautiful glass beads, by hand and we can only wonder how our glass glitter will fit into her creations!

Becky creates wonderful Flameworked Beads and Buttons, Typewriter Keys, and Handmade Supplies for your creations and projects.

She makes her beads and buttons herself using a propane/oxygen torch in her little home studio in the beautiful foothills of California! They are all annealed properly in a digitally controlled kiln.

Retailer Spotlight: Bough Frau - "Embrace Your Space"

Today we welcome a new retailer to Meyer Imports!

 
Bough Frau just launched their website and have some of the most interesting items we have ever seen, such as beautiful Wooden Roses!

 

And for some reason, many things are covered in moss. Or this that Meyer's Earthflakes? We'll never tell.....  Bough Frau is a new business and they are still stocking the website with new items. But I like what I see so far and hope you will stop by as well!

I have really connected with Nikki (Bough Frau creative's genius).  She was born in Germany to American parents, and has a passion for all things vintage, authentic and ethnic. (just like us!)  Anything from the Old World, or anything that is just plain old, it can bring her inspiration for art, merchandise for the store, or it might just determine what’s for her dinner.
