Seventy years ago the allied troops stormed Europe and started towards the end of WWII.

At the end of WWII, East Germany has created, and every company in East Germany was frozen in time. In 1989, after the wall fell and East Germany joined the West, commerce started to grow and there was a rewakening of relations.

Now here we are, 70 years later where these same companies, once blocked from the West, are producing some of the finest products around for our markets. I am not trying to belittle the price that was paid by so many during the war, but I am saying that Freedom is a beautiful thing.

And thanks to the courge of many people, over 70 years ago, I am able to be here today, to tell you that our partner, in former East Germany, is right on track for deliveries of the special German Glass Glitter for the Miss Mustard Seed Glitters, and that we should start making our first deliveries next week.

So to all the fallen, to all who we lost, to all the brave, that 70 years ago made this happen, "The Very Thought of You, Speeds Production".

We are in the middle of production and expect to be making shipments come the middle of June. All orders we get before then will be shipped as soon as product is off the production line!  When you preorder you will have three payment options

1) Pay by credit card: We will only charge once we are ready to ship.
2) Pay by Paypal:  We will get your prepaid order ready to go right away!
3) Request an paypal invoice: Just request this in the comment section and once we are ready to ship, we will send you an Paypal invoice. You can take care of the payment, once we are ready to ship your order!

Been Quiet. Been Working. Been getting ready for change

This is my first blog post of 2014. It might look like we fell off the earth. Still here. Still active. Still offering the best products with the best service team around. But things are different. Just like your kids, we are growing up. Getting bigger. Getting stonger. Able to do things we could not do before.

Last holiday season, we were working harder than ever before just to keep up. I have never seen the volume of new customers, new orders and repeat customers. Every part of the business was at maxium capacity. And then 2014 hit. And we instantly started getting ready for this new year by investing a huge amount in new products, with new suppliers in Germany, the Czech Republic, France, the Netherlands, the UK. Little companies that create wonderful products who want us as their single distributor in the Americas. Kind of cool.

It is also time to revamp our retail stores on ebay, and we are investing to make that happen. And our website is looking kind of stale, so we are fixing that. And some of our largest customers, are now going to be business partners, so we are working on that.

So, while it may look that we are sleeping, we arereally back in the workshop building something that is going to be better for us and better for you.

Which brings me full circle back to you, our customers and blog readers. All the changes I talked about above are because of your input. Watching what interests you and then offering more. Listening to your comments (and complaints) and fixing them. Getting to know the designers and bloggers you know (and trust) and creating deeper, long term relationships with them.

So, thanks for the best year we have ever had. And please do watch over the next 6 months as tons of exciting things start to spring from the trust you have given us. As a supplier, a partner and as small part of everything you create!

It's a Festivus Miracle! The Mini Gnomes are back!

These little 1" Gnomes have quickly become one of our best selling items. It might be because they are so cute, or the fact that we are the only company in North America that imports these, or maybe just because Gnomes are plain awesome.

I came across these on one of my trips to Germany, and was so happy to ink a deal to be the Gnome Guy for North America. We imported a few thousand as a test and ran through them way faster than anyone thought we would. It took a while to get a larger shipment in (these are all hand painted, and take time to produce) but we got our load in this week and are already shipping these out to our Gnome Loving Customers!

Being a Marketing Genius is hard work.

At the start of November I launched what I thought was a pretty good idea. "We should offer samples to all our customers, so they can try, explore and play with items they just want to check out"

Wow, Open the flood gate. Push the peddle to the metal. Turn the amp up to Eleven. And pack that glitter as fast as you can!

I know this is the start of the busiest time of the year and our customers always need more glitter around the holidays, but it was like flipping a switch from normal to super overdrive and it has not slowed down yet!

So, we are peddling as fast as we can, and are sorry if it is taking us an extra day or two to get your order out, but at least you are getting a free sample with every order!

And if you did not ask for your free sample, shame on you!!!! This is not some hollow offer, this is a real and we mean it!

Many, many customers are walking away with a little something extra in their order just because they asked! You should too!

Ok, back to work, we got orders to ship and the Elves in the pack out room are demanding more Hot Cocoa.....

We've Opened our Halloween Store, So get ready to Pumpkin!

Ok, so I am at Costco, buying some huge things that only came in the extra large size, and the store is filled with Christmas stuff. I mean come on, it was like the first day of Fall, Halloween is 6 weeks away. Thanksgiving is not even scheduled yet, and you are selling Christmas items. Wow. So, I took it as a sign that we should open up our Halloween store and get ready to start shipping Witches, pumpkins, spiders and hay bales. If Costco is already selling Christmas, I am really late!

We will be there with a "small" selection of the many Glass Glitters we carry, but the reason to come is if you want see some amazing art and the artists who create these pieces, this is must attend show.

When you think of Meyer Imports, think of this!

There are thousands (millions) of companies that import products into North America. As the big business guys say, "it's global economy" and "having a global supply chain" is how you build a multinational company.

We do it a little different. Yes, we do import almost all our products (99%) from Europe (and most from Germany).

But we do not have a "supply chain" we have friends and partners. Most of our deals are "signed" over cake and coffee with no agreement or lawyers around.

Our partners live in little villages (like the one above) and are just small companies (sometime one, two or maybe 10 people) and are just like us. They love what they do, love what they sell and love who they sell it to.

So, would a big bank ever be interested in my little company? Could we go public and make millions on the stock market?

Probably not. Because by Wall Street standards, our supply chain is too fragile, are not bottom line driven and are stuck in a niche business.

But how do you value the depth of a relationship, the trust that comes from ordering and shipping thousands of dollars of product from a simple email, and in knowing that the product we buy is helping a family, thousands of miles away who is just trying to raise their kids and appriciates the fact that we help sell their product in North America.

So Wall Street, go do your thing somewhere else, we know we do not fit your model, and we are fine with that.

Now to have another piece a cake and some coffee while I close our next big purchase with Hans and his wife!

We get a lot of calls from customers trying to place orders, follow up on questions and just to say hello. We do a pretty good job of getting back to everyone. But as an internet based company, we get orders from around the world in every time zone possible.

Unlike a standard walk in company, we tend to work really odd hours, early in the morning and until late at night. So, to help make sure our customers know when we are in the office and when we are in the warehouse shipping, unpacking or flying around the globe meeting with suppliers we have a pretty easy to remember office schedule.

So, when exactly are operators standing by?

Monday through Friday

Huh? What the heck does that mean?

Just a quick update - Last night our server host did an upgrade to our server which conflicted with the software we use to run our online store. No hackers were involved, just one group of programmers not talking to the other.

They are fixing it now, and the errors message you see on our site will go away soon. The site still works, and no data was comprimised, but the site looks like crap right now.

So, we are on it and will get it back to normal ASAP!

Oh No! It's Broken! Oh Wait, All Fixed!

Thanks to our customers, we were alerted this week to a problem with our website. It was actually a very minor problem, but many customers were scared (and rightfully so!) when they got a screen that the website was "not secure".

Your information and protecting anything you share with us is really, really important to us. Period!

We subscribe to a service that provides a "Secure Connection" between your computer and our on-line store, and that connection was disrupted due to a small setting change by our provider. The site was actually working fine, and the message was really intended to say "hey you - tech guy- take a look at your settings - something isn't right"!

Well, we got the message and I had my web guys and our security company not only fix the problem, but do a complete security sweep to make sure everything else was air tight. It was.

With the "bad guys" trying to steal our credit cards, bank info and everything else, as we all hear about in the news, I want to make sure you know that we really take this seriously. If you ever feel something is not right in our on-line store, just let us know and we will take immediate action to resolve any issues.

So, just keep walking bad guys, but you ain't getting in here. No way, no how.
